Simpler Times is a series of two digital drawings that include minimal 2D animated elements to give life to the drawing. They were created using Procreate and Adobe After Effects. Procreate played a role as my drawing tool for the scenes and animated assets, while Adobe After Effects was my animating tool. This project depicts 2 of my childhood memories that give me a sense of longing for how simple and fun life used to be as a kid. While they are part of a series, they have individual names: 7-11 Trip & Perks of a Summer Birthday. 7-11 Trip is about often times growing up, my dad would take me and my brothers to a hiking trail over the weekends and a trip to 7-11 was always guaranteed afterwards as our reward for getting some exercise; that was the part of the day I looked forward to the most. For Perks of a Summer Birthday, I'm a June baby so a lot of my birthday parties were held at a community pool in my grandparents' neighborhood; I loved having a summer birthday because I loved swimming, the weather was always perfect for it and of course, no school!
Seleyna Velasquez is a multidisciplinary artist based in San Jose, California. Surrounded by creativity from an early age, she developed a deep passion for art, inspired by the artistic people in her life. While she mainly works in digital illustration, she explores a variety of mediums such as, ceramics, traditional painting/drawing, sculpture, and film. Her work ranges from pieces created purely for her own enjoyment to those created with a deeper meaning, often reflecting themes of emotion and nostalgia. She draws inspiration from TV shows, cartoons, family, and personal experiences, weaving these influences into her unique artistic expression.
