Styled Memory

Created By: Laney Saechao (she/her)

Artist Statement

In this project, I turn my personal wardrobe into a digital space that reflects how fashion has helped me feel safe, expressive, and put together throughout my life. By scanning my clothes and placing them in a whimsical virtual world, I'm preserving memories tied to each piece. The way viewers interact with my clothes in this space mirrors how I used to play online dress-up games as a kid—freely exploring outfits and finding joy in styling and self-expression.

Artist Biography

Laney Saechao is an Asian American artist practicing in the Bay area and is particularly drawn to digital illustration, design, and fashion. She is originally from Sacramento California but often draws inspiration from the symbolism and refined aesthetics of Japanese artistry. She has a deep appreciation for its sense of intention, simplicity, and quiet beauty. These are qualities that strongly influence her own creative approach as she leans into creating clean, cohesive pieces that evoke a sense of calm and harmony—a way of grounding herself in a world that can often feel chaotic and overwhelming.
