A 2D animated video of a short story about an astronaut and a whale, created with Procreate and Procreate Dreams. I relate to the whale in the story in the sense that sometimes I feel like I don't fit in where I “belong”. As a “white-washed” Mexican-American, there are complexities to my identity within my community, I sometimes feel disconnected from my roots. In the art community, I often feel the symptoms of imposter syndrome, making me question whether or not I deserve to be here. But just as the whale finds joy in his adventure with the astronaut, I have discovered my own sense of belonging through new friendships and creative exploration. I want to reflect the feeling of stepping outside of familiarity, diving into unknown territory, and finding joy in the process of discovery.
Emma Morales is a Mexican-American artist from Farmersville, California, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media Art at San José State University.
Growing up, her childhood dream was to become an artist. But after years of sketching, painting and crafting, she realized that her worked better with a mouse and screen rather than a paintbrush and canvas.
After discovering this new medium she quickly became passionate about working on Digital Illustrations , Video Editing, and Photoshop. Although she is still in the process of building a better portfolio of work, she is passionate about creating immersive scenes through video and web designs. Emma hopes to continue expanding on this by incorporating animation in future works. In doing so, she hopes to captivate audiences with feelings of awe and wonder.
