Invisible Illness

Lupus, or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is a chronic autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues. Despite its widespread impact, many people misunderstand or overlook the struggles of lupus patients, often dismissing their pain as weakness or laziness. My artwork aims to bring awareness to this invisible battle, shedding light on the physical and emotional toll it takes. Many individuals with lupus hide their suffering, fearing judgment or being seen as a burden. Simple gestures—like asking, “How are you feeling today?”—can mean the world to them. With this piece, I hope to foster empathy, encourage understanding, and spark conversations that create a more supportive space for those living with lupus. Ultimately, I dream of a future where medical advancements offer better relief, and where lupus patients no longer feel the need to mask their pain.
