I long to feel seen in a crowded room of people. Maybe I’m not outgoing enough for others or the scary possibility of actually being uninteresting in someone else’s eyes can become the truth. These deep thoughts are haunting. Surely others feel the same, right? My work aims to discuss the feelings of belonging and identity. These worries are affected by a number of different factors like whether or not it is personal or societal. The important question is “how do you feel about yourself”. Avatar Factory explores the path into creating one's identity. Although the player plays a game, the issues are still prevalent. Creating an avatar to represent you and your personality is meaningful. It would be interesting to find out what people who remain solid in their confidence in self image and identity would create. For the ones that struggle finding their own identity, this can help create an extra stepping stone in a direction that can lead them to ponder more. Taking inspiration from ANDYPANTS.net, the concept of a build-your-own avatar has been reworked to represent the artistic context and process of my work. Allowing the players to be immersed into the world of the past, honing in on that late 90s and early 2000s aesthetic is important. Taking the players back to experience the early era of the digital age, the aesthetics of this piece become vital to the overall mood and tone. The mediums I chose to highlight this digital era are digital games, art, and sites. Being able to incorporate mediums like the Unity Game Engine, Blender, and web compatible programs allow me to express my art through a technical lens.
Meet Cameron Chung, a digital media artist that explores art through various programs like Max8, Blender, Adobe Substance 3D Painter, and p5.js, she uses different mediums to illustrate the intersecting field between art and technology. From sculpting in the 3D universe with Blender to crafting vivid textures in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, Chung transforms imagination into virtual reality. The rhythm of her creativity extends to interactive web art, as they bind HTML, CSS, and Javascript to breathe life into pixels, inviting you to play in this digital playground. In a world where art meets algorithms, Chung paints a vivid picture of her artwork on screen, where every click, scroll, and hover is a brushstroke in the canvas of her mind.
