The creation process of this work was mostly in Blender and Wonder Dynamics but the final execution and presentation is implemented in New Art City, a virtual art gallery space. I have created 4 animated segments of combat between 3D characters using both motion capture and hand animation which has been timed and paced to various pieces of music by the band, Fistfight with Traffic. Each animation and corresponding music segment has been placed together in an open space in New Art City where the music is triggered based on user proximity. This makes it so that the user can walk around and experience each animated sequence at any point they choose and that the music only cuts in when close enough so as to not overlap with the tracks of the surrounding animations. I have used publicly available character rigs from Mixamo and Agora where they host free-to-use 3D assets for both commercial and non-commercial work. The reason that I decided to go forward with this concept is because of my long-standing passion for 3D animation and fight choreography. This interest in fight choreography stems form my 10+ year history with martial arts such as Kung Fu and Kickboxing. I see fighting and action as a way to express both the artist and the personalities of the portrayed characters in a raw and uninhibited way. Wanting to animate fight scenes in 3D is the initial reason that I began my journey into Digital Media Art in the first place and so it felt fitting to be my BFA project. It is also a culmination of many of the things that I have learned across a lot of my other work in this program. Also, I want to have this project to be an opportunity to show off my 3D animation skills as I have not had many big projects to do so in the same way I have been able to show off my 3D modeling skills.

My name is Alexander Price, and I am a new media artist based in San Jose, California. From web art, to graphic design, to 3D modeling in Blender, I enjoy dipping my toes into all kinds of digital art forms. I primarily work with 3D and have been doing so since 2019, but I have recently been interested in coding and video editing as well. I'm a Digital Media Art student and a proud member of the ShrunkenHeadMan Community at SJSU looking to get into the games or TV industry as a 3D modeler or animator.
