Artist Statement

In Athletic Arts, I explore the intersection between athleticism and artistic expression through a series of posters and video. Soccer, a sport often defined by speed and physicality, also holds a creative element in its players movements. Each poster in this series visualizes movement as an art form, such like a player striking the ball, their shadow forming the shape of a dancer mid-performance, or an athlete feinting, capturing the split-second decisions that misdirect opponents. These visual elements reveal the strategy, and creativity behind each movement. Accompanying the posters, a looping video displays real-life clips of soccer players using these same techniques, underscoring how these motions are similar to the finesse of a dance. Through this work, I invite viewers to see the artistry present in athletic performance, where sports meet the aesthetics of motion.
