pagkatawo

2022, Video Projection Mapping

Marc Anthony Cerbo Cordonero

ARTIST STATEMENT

For hundreds of years, Filipinos have been stripped of their culture and true Identity. The Filipino ancestors have been enslaved, raped, beaten, killed, mocked, and ridiculed by colonizers to the point of forgetting our past. But one thing remains the Pinoy pride. For many years, Filipinos have researched, searched, and traveled to recollect our old tradition. “pagkatawo” roughly translates to birth/ identity in Bisayan, a Filipino dialect. This artwork pays homage to the early culture of tattooing, music, and storytelling with the use of Digital Projection Mapping. The story that is being shared is about the God, Batala, creating the 7 moons and the dragon, Bakunawa, coming to eat them all.
