ARTIST STATEMENT

The series of images from “Masked Aesthetics” are edited images that were collaged through Photoshop. I originally made these images from feeling nostalgic and experiencing new genres. Because of that, I found a new interest in a niche media and decided to make work based on that media. To be specific, I was very interested in the Japanese superheroes known as Kamen Rider. After watching several variations of this show, it came to my knowledge that not many people in the west don’t know about these shows. I want more people to know about these characters and the universe it brings. The Kamen Rider design alone I was always interested in and curious to why they are designed in such a way. I was inspired by a lot of pieces of media when making this project. Some influences were clean minimalistic silhouettes made based on video games and modern media. But the biggest influence when making these images is cyberpunk media. In particular, the aesthetic that cyberpunk media brings into their setting such as bright neon colors and futuristic vibes.
